10 Questions with Lauran Hibberd

The Isle of Wight raised, fuzzed up Indie/Rock artist claims: 'Don't tell me stories, I'll write songs about them'

Where do you go to discover new music?
Always Spotify. I'm obsessed with the way it picks up on what kind of thing I'm into and helps me stumble across new bands and artists to become even more obsessed with. I feel very lucky to be on some of these playlists now also! I love discovering new bands live as well.

What have we got to look forward to with you this year?
I released a new single 'Call Shotgun' on the 29th June, so I'm still really excited about that. But will be hoping to release a lot of new music, with the potential of an EP later in the year. Gig wise, I'm headlining Heartbreakers in Southampton on 5th July and you can catch me at Blue Dot, Dials and Follow The Sun Fest later in the next month or two. And lots more things to be announced...

First song you fell in love with?
Hotel Yorba - White Stripes. I don't even know why, I just have always loved it.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Phoebe Bridgers. I love the darkness in it. She seems like she'd just be a cool person to hang out with as well.

What would you most like to own on vinyl?
Zuzu! I can't wait for her album and to own it on vinyl. I wrote with her recently, and am obsessed with her current EP Made on Earth by Humans. She's the coolest!

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Really into Superorganism, Hayley Henderickx, Soccer Mommy, Margaret Glaspy etc.

What's your guilty pleasure song?
Honesty anything by Taylor Swift, Delicate is a TUNE!

What inspires you to write music?
I try to take inspiration from the bleak in everyday life. I find the mundane fascinating. I wrote Call Shotgun about a baseball cap I found at a theme park. I like to create and exaggerate characters in my actual life, and blend it with my overactive imagination to ironically create realistic and relatable stories. So I'm not sure what I'd do with all of this useless information if I didn't have music to put it into ha!

What's your favourite song to play live?
Definitely Call Shotgun. Or a new one I wrote recently called 'Frankies Girlfriend'.

Where would you most like to play? I would love to play at Shepherds Bush Empire, my favourite venue ever!!!
