10 Questions with L.A Peach

L.A Peach is a British solo artist who is one to watch. The brilliant ‘Heart Strings’ is his third EP released last month on 38 SPACES recording company. Filled with perfect pop songs to accompany a relaxed summers evening, we can't wait to see him live in Brighton. With dates coming up this month this is music you need to hear live. We asked L.A Peach our 10 questions.

Where do you go to discover new music?

I’ve been sat reading this question over and over for at least 5 minutes, and I still don’t have a decent answer! I have no idea. I usually I’ll just listen to things my friends turn me on to and then I’ll rinse that. It’s fun doing it this way, for example I now live with a couple of guys that love hip-hop, so what I listen to on a daily basis has changed quite considerably, and I keep writing lyrics that sound like Will Smith raps...

What have we got to look forward to with you this year?

I’m currently finishing off a new music video, well, actually it’s more like a documentary about how I made my World Famous Peach Jam - that’ll be out soon!

As far as shows go I’ve got three of em coming up next week! Brighton @ Green Door Store (14th), Bristol @ Cafe Kino (15th) and then London @ Lock Tavern (18th).

The past month has been a very productive one for me and I’m now in the process of demoing what will be my first album, I hope, I’ve even got a name for it too! It’s gonna be an exciting year, got some big shows to announce soon.

First song you fell in love with?

Cecilia by Simon & Garfunkel 100%! I loved that song as soon as I heard it, and I still love it just as much now. I remember my dad putting the tape on whilst we were driving to football one day and I just couldn’t stop dancing in the car. I love Simon & Garfunkel almost as much as I love myself!

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
That’s a good question. I think Frank Ocean would probably be my first answer, as I love Blond(e) and I reckon I could really help elevate his career to the next level!

I would also love to collaborate with Matt Maltese, the dudes so smooth, and to be honest I’d just really like to watch him craft a song and then I could steal it and release it before he does.

What would you most like to own on vinyl?

Blond(e) by Frank Ocean. So if anyone wants to sort that out for me, I would really appreciate it thank you!!

Who are you listening to at the moment?
Nature TV. They write songs the way I wish I could, so I’ve been stealing their chord progressions and writing my own!

We played with them in Brighton, they made me feel very good inside, and then when we listened back to their songs on Soundcloud later that night my heart nearly burst and now I’m in love. They only have 3 songs online and it’s driving me up the wall. Release more music or I’ll bad mouth you on the internet!!! (also they’re the main support on our Green Door Store show next week (14th August).

The other music I’ve been rinsing is that new Kanye & Cudi project Kids See Ghosts – the record slays. If you haven’t listened already you should, if only just to hear Kanye shout a trap beat down a mic for 30 seconds....

And also Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, there’s so many good melodies on that record its actually crazy.

What's your guilty pleasure song?
Probably Steal My Girl by One Direction, but I don’t feel guilty after listening, I just feel glorious! That whole record ‘Four’ is outstanding, so is that Harry Styles solo record (bar a couple of dodging tracks). Pop music is great. And easy. And it’s a safe alternative to drugs.

What inspires you to write music?
I get nuggets of inspiration from everything but mainly I like to make a movie in my head, usually based on something I’ve heard or seen, often it’ll be a scene from a book, and I’ll try make the music to it as if it were a film!

Lately though I’ve been trying super hard to make music totally about myself or at least be a tad more honest in songs, so I inspire myself, I guess you could say. Take ‘Heart Strings’ for example, that’s pretty personal. And the song I played on my BBC Introducing session, ‘Let Me Come Out’, that’s a song I wrote about high school, and the effects of that locker-room-lad mentality.

What's your favourite song to play live?
Lost In The Snow, without a shadow of a doubt! I haven’t released the song yet because I just can’t seem to capture it properly which is frustrating, but now that I’ve got a full band that could change! It was my attempt at writing a Jonathan Richman song.

Where would you most like to play?
White Hart Lane, headline show at the stadium of the greatest football club in the history of the sport. Nothing would bring me more joy.
